Similar to the skills data presented in the ICT sector flash report, it is observed that communication/ interpersonal skills are widely demanded in the Banking & Finance sector, with close to 90% of all the job postings in the sector requiring the said skill. This indicates that communication/ interpersonal skills are probably considered to be a ‘hygiene factor’ for employment in the Banking & Finance sector.

There is also a strong demand for analytical/ problem solving skills, with nearly 40% of all Banking & Finance jobs requiring them. The next desirable traits are self-motivated/ proactive, leadership qualities and meticulousness which are demanded by 10-15% of job postings in the sector.

On the other hand, there is greater variability in the demand for technical skills in the Banking & Finance sector. JobTech has identified at least 25 different technical skills requirements including the top 5 above. The high demand for risk management and cyber security skills appear to be more peculiar to the Banking & Finance sector. Notably, cyber security skills, which are demanded by more than 5% of job postings in the sector require CompTIA Security + certification which is a globally trusted certification that validates jobseekers’ IT security knowledge and skills.
